Finite element modelling of exponentially graded composites with microstructure

چکیده
Composite material properties are dependent on their microstructure. To adequately model these microstructural effects, a formulation of elasticity that accounts for effects must be considered. Size-dependent behaviour is an inherent property such materials, resulting in need non-classical continuum theories adequate characterization. A three-dimensional exponentially graded composite with developed under the framework Cosserat elasticity. The mixed boundary value problem formulated and solved through finite element method, implemented commercial software Abaqus two user elements. Recovery classical limit Dirichlet discussed as initial validation until complete experimental measurements can conducted.

Flexural Strengthening of Deficient Reinforced Concrete Beams with Post-Tensioned Carbon Composites using Finite Element Modelling
The application of external post-tensioned steel bars as an effective way to strengthen an existing bridge has been so far used in many different countries. In recent decades, however, they have been replaced by bars made from Carbon Fiber Reinforced Polymer (CFRP), as a material with high tensile strength and corrosion resistance, to address several concerns with steel bars such as their appli...
متن کاملFinite Element Analysis of an Exponentially Graded Mesh for Singularly Perturbed Problems
We present the mathematical analysis for the convergence of an h version Finite Element Method (FEM) with piecewise polynomials of degree p ≥ 1, de ned on an exponentially graded mesh. The analysis is presented for a singularly perturbed reaction-di usion and a convection-di usion equation in one dimension. We prove convergence of optimal order and independent of the singular perturbation param...
متن کاملTheoretical Formulations for Finite Element Models of Functionally Graded Beams with Piezoelectric Layers
In this paper an overview of functionally graded materials and constitutive relations of electro elasticity for three-dimensional deformable solids is presented, and governing equations of the Bernoulli–Euler and Timoshenko beam theories which account for through-thickness power-law variation of a two-constituent material and piezoelectric layers are developed using the principle of virtua...
متن کاملNonconforming finite element approximation of crystalline microstructure
We consider a class of nonconforming nite element approximations of a simply laminated microstructure which minimizes the nonconvex variational problem for the deformation of martensitic crystals which can undergo either an orthorhombic to monoclinic (double well) or a cubic to tetragonal (triple well) transformation. We rst establish a series of error bounds in terms of elastic energies for th...
متن کاملFinite-Element Modelling of Biotransistors
Current research efforts in biosensor design attempt to integrate biochemical assays with semiconductor substrates and microfluidic assemblies to realize fully integrated lab-on-chip devices. The DNA biotransistor (BioFET) is an example of such a device. The process of chemical modification of the FET and attachment of linker and probe molecules is a statistical process that can result in varia...
